A very exciting series of events is taking place this fall through a collaborative partnership between SAIC (Sullivan Galleries) and a number of cultural institutions including The Stockyard Institute, Hull House, etc. The series entitled Artists as changemakers invites artists, critics, and academics into a conversation around art as social practice. I urge our learning community to attend these events as it is rare to have so many excellent artists/thinkers in one city addressing the topic of art as social practice. Perhaps we can attend the exhibition A Proximity of Consciousness: Art and Social Action together. I plan on going on Saturday, October 11th and am excited to think through the possibilities of how art and social practice can make their way into your classrooms and pedagogy.
